Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary!

During our trip to Norfolk, we set out along the Coastal road to West Runton to visit Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary. It was a beautiful drive and on arrival we were thrilled to find so many rescued animals at the centre. We were greeted by Shires, a Suffolk Punch and two cows in the field next to the car park! The shires were very friendly and came over to say hello, such gentle giants. We also soon fell in love with the miniture shetland ponies which looked even smaller than normal next to the heavy horses! The centre also has a number of other farm animals including pigs, lamas, donkies, rabbits and sheep. It's a great day for the kids but us adults enjoyed it too!!! Having read about so many of the cases, we were again unfortunately upset to see details of so many mistreated animals yet encouraged by the hard work at the Santuary. We had a particular soft spot fot the beautiful Bess who was dozing in her stable in the sunshine whilst waiting for the farrier to see to her. Here she is looking very clean!

In addition it was also great to meet and greet the RDA (Riding for The Disabled) ponies at the centre! If you are ever in the norfolk area I would fully recommened the centre as a great day out for all the family. Please do check their website for opening days and hours.
